Owners
John ES Smith is originally from Canada and his hometown is Rimbey, Alberta but now calls Montana home. John has been involved in rodeo since he was a youngster competing in high school rodeo and attended college on a rodeo scholarship at Dawson College in Glendive, Montana. He has competed on the PRCA circuit as a bronc rider and bull rider at the very top of the professional ranks as a Canadian National Champion Novice Saddle Bronc rider in 1981.
He was the 1983 Calgary Stampede All-Around Champion and Bull Riding average winner. He was also Canadian National Saddle Bronc Champion in 1988 with a total 11 appearances at the CNFR in Saddle Broncs and once in Bull riding. He was a two-time NFR qualifier in saddle broncs in 1990 and 1991. He is now considered a master rodeo stockman and has a reputation for knowing how to raise, select and develop top rodeo bucking stock. He is a Co-Owner of JS Rodeo and is the Director of Rodeo Operations as well as the primary flankman for JS Rodeo bucking stock events.
J. Patrick Johnson is a native Montanan originally from Great Falls and was brought up on the family cattle ranch in the Missouri Breaks in central Montana. He competed in bull riding and barebacks and also worked as bullfighter and barrelman during the 1970's then went on to pursue his other career in medicine now as a nationally and internationally recognized leader as a neurosurgeon who is also a dedicated educator and researcher.
He has served as the Director of the Neurosurgery Spine program at UCLA and more recently a Director at the renowned Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles involved with training the future top surgeons and is involved with the some of the first human stem cell transplants into the spinal cord beginning in 2010 at the University of California-Irvine. He also founded the Spine Center-LA and Spine Center-MT. In addition, he is a consulting physician for Justin Sports Medicine. He is the Co-Owner of JS Rodeo as well as Chute Boss and Arena Director for JS Rodeo events.
